Researchers at the University of Minnesota discovered that consuming CBD orally with high-fat foods can increase CBD by 4x in the body to 14x in the bloodstream! The researchers studied epilepsy patients who fasted vs. those who ate a high fat meal with CBD capsules, and they discovered “the fat content of a meal can lead to significant increases in [concentration levels in the body] and can account for variability in bioavailability.”

Healthy high-fat foods include:

  • Dark chocolate

  • Fatty fish like salmon, albacore tuna, and sardines

  • Seeds like hemp (which contains over 30% fat made of omega-6 and omega-3), chia, flax, sunflower, and pumpkin

  • Healthy oils, like extra virgin olive oil, sesame, coconut and MCT
